Overview
Emergency physicians require a broad knowledge base and must possess the skills of many specialists, for instance, the ability to manage a difficult airway (anesthesia), suture a complex laceration (plastic surgery), reduce a fractured bone or dislocated joint (orthopedic surgery), treat a heart attack (internist), deliver a baby (Obstetrics and Gynecology), stop a bad nosebleed (ENT), manage suicide attempts and complex overdoses (Psychiatry & Toxicology), tap a septic joint (Rheumatology), protect an abused child (Pediatrics), and place a chest tube (Cardiothoracic Surgery). The final goal is to increase the knowledge and competence of the emergency physician to stabilize, manage and diagnose individuals with acute illness and injury.
Objectives
This activity is designed to:

  1. Promote a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach to the diagnosis, treatment and management of patients requiring emergency medical treatment.
  2. Apply evidence-based medicine to ensure the most appropriate clinical pathways for enhanced patient outcomes and continuous quality improvement.
  3. Advance the evaluation, treatment and management of our patients through discussion of novel approaches and advanced therapies.
  4. Create treatment plans for patients that utilize newly approved techniques and conform closely to current expert recommendations of evidence-based medicine.

First Monday of month at 8 am
